अयि गिरिनन्दिनि नन्दितमेदिनि विश्वविनोदिनि नन्दिनुते
गिरिवरविन्ध्यशिरोऽधिनिवासिनि विष्णुविलासिनि जिष्णुनुते ।
भगवति हे शितिकण्ठकुटुम्बिनि भूरिकुटुम्बिनि भूरिकृते
जय जय हे महिषासुरमर्दिनि रम्यकपर्दिनि शैलसुते ॥ १ ॥

aigiri nandini-nandita medini-viswa vinodini-nandanute
girivara vindhya-sirodhini vasini-vishnu vilasini-jishnu nute
bhagavati hey-shiti kantha kutumbini-bhuri kutumbini bhurikrite
jaya jaya hey mahishasura mardini-ramyakapardini-shailasute ||1||

(Salutations to the goddess) who is daughter of a great Himavanta(Mountain),
whose presence brings happiness to the entire world,
for whom the whole world is a divine play and who is praised by nandi,
who resides on the vindhya mountain, who give joy to lord vishnu (as his sister) and who is praised by Indra.


(Salutations to the goddess) who is the consort of the one who has Blue Throat (Lord Shiva),
for whom all the creation is one big family, who does all the great thinhgs in Universe
(creation, preservation, and destruction)
victory to you, victory to youo the destroyer of demon Mahishasura,
the one with beautiful-braided hair, the daughter of the mountain.

सुरवरवर्षिणि दुर्धरधर्षिणि दुर्मुखमर्षिणि हर्षरते
त्रिभुवनपोषिणि शङ्करतोषिणि किल्बिषमोषिणि घोषरते
दनुजनिरोषिणि दितिसुतरोषिणि दुर्मदशोषिणि सिन्धुसुते
जय जय हे महिषासुरमर्दिनि रम्यकपर्दिनि शैलसुते ॥ २ ॥

sura vara-varsini durdhara dharsini-durmukha marsini-harsha rate
tribhuvana poshini-shankara toshini-kilbissa moshini-ghosa rate
danuja niroshini-diti-suta roshini-durmada shoshini-sindu sute
jaya jaya hey mahishasura mardini-ramyakapardini shailasute ||2||

(Salutations to the goddess) who showers boons on devas, who defeated the demon Durdhara
and who is the destroyer of Durmukha, who delights in her own bliss,
who nourishes the three worlds, who delights God Shankara,
who frees us from the bad thoughts, who is delighted by the sounds of demons
(war cries due to her acts to protect the worlds).


(Salutations to the goddess) who was angry on the sons of Danu (Danavas),
and furious on the sons of Diti (Daithyas),
who destroyed the demon Durmada,
who is daughter of the ocean(as devi Lakshmi)
Victory to you, victory to you, the destroyer of Mahishasura,
the one with beautiful-braided hair, the daughter of the mountain.

अयि जगदम्ब मदम्ब कदम्ब वनप्रियवासिनि हासरते
शिखरि शिरोमणि तुङ्गहिमलय शृङ्गनिजालय मध्यगते ।
मधुमधुरे मधुकैटभगञ्जिनि कैटभभञ्जिनि रासरते
जय जय हे महिषासुरमर्दिनि रम्यकपर्दिनि शैलसुते ॥ ३ ॥

ayi jagadamba-madamba kadamba-vana priya vasini-hasa rate
shikhari shiromani-tunga himalaya-shringa nijalaya-madhya gate
madhu madhure-madhu kaithabha ganjini-kaithabha bhanjini-rasa rate
jaya jaya hey mahishasura mardini-ramyakpardini shailasute ||3||

(Salutations to the goddess) who is the mother of the universe,
who is my own mother, who like to live in the forest of kadamba trees and
who gets delighted by laughter or humor,
who lives in the middle of the the crest jewel of the peaks of himalayas.

(Salutations to the goddess) whose nature is as sweet as honey, 
who killed the pride of the demons madhu and kaitabha and slayed them
victory to you, victory to you, the destroyer of mahishasura, 
the one with beautiful-braided hair, the daughter of the mountain

अयि शतखण्ड विखण्डितरुण्ड वितुण्डितशुण्द गजाधिपते
रिपुगजगण्ड विदारणचण्ड पराक्रमशुण्ड मृगाधिपते ।
निजभुजदण्ड निपातितखण्ड विपातितमुण्ड भटाधिपते
जय जय हे महिषासुरमर्दिनि रम्यकपर्दिनि शैलसुते ॥ ४ ॥

ayi shata khandha-vikhanadita runda-vitundita shunda-gaja dhipate
ripu gaja ganda-vidarana chanda-parakrama shunda-mriga dhipate
nija bhuja danda-nipatita khanda-vipatita munda-bhata dhipate
jaya jaya hey mahishasura mardini-ramyakpardini shailasute ||4||

(Salutations to the goddess) who has shattered the horses and elephants of enemy,
chopped off the trunks of elephants along with the masters of elephants into hundred pieces
who has the Lion, which possessed great valor
and is extreme in breaking the jaws and tearing the cheeks of the enemies elephants.
(Salutations to the goddess) who with her weapon in hands
crushed the demons Chanda, Munda, and their soldiers.

अयि रणदुर्मद शत्रुवधोदित दुर्धरनिर्जर शक्तिभृते
चतुरविचार धुरीणमहाशिव दूतकृत प्रमथाधिपते ।
दुरितदुरीह दुराशयदुर्मति दानवदुत कृतान्तमते
जय जय हे महिषासुरमर्दिनि रम्यकपर्दिनि शैलसुते ॥ ५ ॥

ayi rana durmada-shatru vadho dita-dhurdhara nirjara-shakti bhrute
chatura vichara-dhurina maha shiva-duta krita pramatha-dhipate
durita-duriha-durashaya-durmati-danava-duta-kritanta-mate
jaya jaya hey mahishasura mardini-ramyakpardini shailasute ||5||

(Salutations to the goddess) who manifested to destroy 
the demons who were foolishly in pride, who has the indestructible power,
 who made lord shiva as her messanger, (shiva) known as lord of ghosts, 
who is efficient, ingeniously thoughtful, and known for his tricky strategy.

(Salutations to the goddess) who destroyed the evil minded messenger of demons,
Whose thoughts are sinful with bad desires 
Victory to you, victory to you, the destroyer of mahishasura, 
the one with beautiful-braided hair, the daughter of the mountain.

अयि शरणागत वैरिवधुवर वीरवराभय दायकरे
त्रिभुवनमस्तक शूलविरोधि शिरोऽधिकृतामल शूलकरे ।
दुमिदुमितामर धुन्दुभिनादमहोमुखरीकृत दिङ्मकरे
जय जय हे महिषासुरमर्दिनि रम्यकपर्दिनि शैलसुते ॥ ६ ॥

ayi sharanagat-vairi vadhu vara-veer varabhaya-daya kare
tribhuvana mastaka-shula virodhi-shirodhi krtamala-shula kare
dumi dumi tamara-dhundubhi nadamaho-mukhari krta-dingma kare
jaya jaya hey mahishasura mardini-ramyakpardini shailasute ||6||

(Salutations to the goddess) who gave freedom from fear to the enemy soldiers 
when their wives came seeking refuge from them.
You are the one who keeps trident on the throat of demons
who causes troubles in three worlds
and who opposes that trident.

(Salutations to the goddess) who gets into action with the Dhumi Dhumi,
(sounds generated by the instrument Dumdhubhi, a war drum, to signify the war)
who is like the glowing sun, victory to you, victory to you, the destroyer of mahishasura, 
the one with beautiful-braided hair, the daughter of the mountain.

अयि निजहुङ्कृति मात्रनिराकृत धूम्रविलोचन धूम्रशते
समरविशोषित शोणितबीज समुद्भवशोणित बीजलते ।
शिवशिवशुम्भ निशुम्भमहाहव तर्पितभूत पिशाचरते
जय जय हे महिषासुरमर्दिनि रम्यकपर्दिनि शैलसुते ॥ ७ ॥

ayi nija hungkrita-matra nirakrita-dhumravilochana-dhumra shate
samar vishoshita-shonita bija-samudbhava shonita-bija late
shiva shiva shumbha-nishnumbha maha hava-tarpita bhuta-pischa rate
jaya jaya hey mahishasura mardini-ramyakpardini shailasute ||7||

(Salutations to the goddess) who vanished the demon dhumralochana
into hundred smoke pieces, just with humkara (loud war cry)
who destryoed the strength of demon rakthabeeja,
and similar rakthabeeja's produce from him like a chain
when his blood which fell on the earth and acted as a seed.


Siva-Siva (thinking about the war) with sumbha nisumbha,
you are the one who destroyed all and
satisfied the Bhutha and Pisacha-ganas.

धनुरनुषङ्ग रणक्षणसङ्ग परिस्फुरदङ्ग नटत्कटके
कनकपिशङ्ग पृषत्कनिषङ्ग रसद्भटशृङ्ग हताबटुके ।
कृतचतुरङ्ग बलक्षितिरङ्ग घटद्बहुरङ्ग रटद्बटुके
जय जय हे महिषासुरमर्दिनि रम्यकपर्दिनि शैलसुते ॥ ८ ॥

dhanura nusanga-ranakshana sanga-parisphura anga-nattat ka take
kanaka pisanga-prassatka nisanga-rasad bhatta-hata batuke
krit chaturanga-bala kshita ranga-ghattad bahu ranga-rattad battuke
jaya jaya hey mahishasura mardini-ramyakpardini shailasute ||8||

(Salutations to the goddess) whose bangles and ornaments are moving following the movements
of twanging of the bow and arrows, which struck in the throat of enemies
whose arrows coming from the golden quiver,
the force and power of those arrows are beheading and ending the enemies.

(Salutatioms to the goddess)who while fighting with the four forces of enemies
(chariots, elephantry, cavalry, and infantry),
several Shakti’s came out of you like batukas.
Victory to you, victory to you, the destroyer of mahishasura,

सुरललना ततथेयि तथेयि कृताभिनयोदर नृत्यरते
कृत कुकुथः कुकुथो गडदादिकताल कुतूहल गानरते ।
धुधुकुट धुक्कुट धिंधिमित ध्वनि धीर मृदंग निनादरते
जय जय हे महिषासुरमर्दिनि रम्यकपर्दिनि शैलसुते ॥ ९ ॥

sura lalana-tatatheyi tatheyi-krita abhinayo dara-nritya rate
krita kukutha-kukutho gada dadika-tala kuthuhal-gaana rate
dhudhukutta dhukkutta-dhimdhimita dhvani-dhira mridanga-ninada rate
jaya jaya hey mahishasura mardini-ramyakpardini shailasute ||9||

(Salutations to the goddess) who takes delight by the dance sequences of deva kaantas 
with the rhythm Tatatheyi Tatheyi, who takes joy listening to the singing of celestial musicians
which are present in the rhythms of Ku-Kutha, Ga-Da-Dha, 
which is created to captures the tense, eagerness in the war ground.

(Salutations to the goddess) who takes pleasure in deep sounding war drum (mrudanga) 
that was resounding with deep sounds Dhudukuta Dhudkuta indicating the completion of war 
and with sounds of dhimi dhimi indicating the courage of Devi and her warriors
Victory to you, Victory to you, the destroyer of mahishasura,
the one with beautiful-braided hair, the daughter of the mountain.

जय जय जप्य जयेजयशब्द परस्तुति तत्परविश्वनुते
झणझणझिञ्झिमि झिङ्कृत नूपुरशिञ्जितमोहित भूतपते ।
नटित नटार्ध नटी नट नायक नाटितनाट्य सुगानरते
जय जय हे महिषासुरमर्दिनि रम्यकपर्दिनि शैलसुते ॥ १० ॥

jaya jaya japya-jaye jaya shabda-paras stuti tat para-vishva nute
jhanna jhanna-jhin jhimi jhingkrita-nupura shinjita mohita-bhuta pate
natita-natardha-nati-nat-nayaka-natitta-nattya-sugana-rate
jaya jaya hey mahishasura mardini-ramyakpardini shailasute ||10||

(Salutations to the goddess) who is praised by the words Jaya Jaya, 
(O goddess) you and your stories are the ones which can be meditated upon doing Japa, 
(O goddess) who is praised by stutis by all in various ways,
(Salutations to the goddess) whose anklets makes sounds like,
jhana-jhana-jhin-jhimi which delights lord of ghosts (Lord Shiva)

(Salutations to the goddess) who takes joy in dancing with Shiva
in their half male and half female form (Ardhanarishwara) 
as the leaders of the dance which is happening along with good songs

अयि सुमनःसुमनःसुमनः सुमनःसुमनोहरकान्तियुते
श्रितरजनी रजनीरजनी रजनीरजनी करवक्त्रवृते ।
सुनयनविभ्रमर भ्रमरभ्रमर भ्रमरभ्रमराधिपते
जय जय हे महिषासुरमर्दिनि रम्यकपर्दिनि शैलसुते ॥ ११ ॥

ayi sumanha suman-sumana sumana sumano-hara-kanti yute
shritarajnii rajannii rajanii rajanii-rajnii kara vaktra-vrite
sunayana-vi-bhramara-bhramara-bhramara-bhramara-bhramara-adhipate
jaya jaya hey mahishasura mardini-ramyakpardini shailasute ||11||

(Salutations to the goddess) whose beautiful mind is united with a charming appearance,
whose beautiful face makes Subserviant,
the Beauty of the Moon Light of Night  by Hiding them with Its Own Beauty,

(Salutations to the goddess) whose beautiful eyes conquer the beauty of the bees by Its own beauty,
Victory to you, Victory to you, the destroyer of Mahishasura,
the one with beautiful-braided hair, the daughter of the mountain.

सहितमहाहव मल्लमतल्लिक मल्लितरल्लक मल्लरते
विरचितवल्लिक पल्लिकमल्लिक झिल्लिकभिल्लिक वर्गवृते ।
शितकृतफुल्ल समुल्लसितारुण तल्लजपल्लव सल्ललिते
जय जय हे महिषासुरमर्दिनि रम्यकपर्दिनि शैलसुते ॥ १२ ॥

sahita maha-hava mallama tallika-malli tarallaka-malla rate
virachita vallika-pallika mallika-jhilika bhilika-varga vrite
shita krita-phulla sumallasita-tallaja pallava-salla-lite
jaya jaya hey mahishasura mardini-ramyakpardini shailasute ||12||

(Salutations to the goddess) who had also destroyed the proud of all the combat wrestlers
who are even good at Malla techniques like mallitha, thallika(who are good at the art of war)
O the one great at Malla yuddha (I bow down to you).

(Salutations to the goddess) who resides around Gnana tree(Lodhra Tree)
Lining in the places covered with jasmine creepers, who likes wandering around the plants
and blossom their buds, the one appearing in red colour
Victory to you, Victory to you, the destroyer of mahishasura,
the one with beautiful-braided hair, the daughter of the mountain.

अविरलगण्ड गलन्मदमेदुर मत्तमतङ्ग जराजपते
त्रिभुवनभुषण भूतकलानिधि रूपपयोनिधि राजसुते ।
अयि सुदतीजन लालसमानस मोहन मन्मथराजसुते
जय जय हे महिषासुरमर्दिनि रम्यकपर्दिनि शैलसुते ॥ १३ ॥

 avirala ganda-galan mada-medura matta-matanhgga-jaraja pate
tribhuvana-bhusana bhutakala-nidhi-rupa payonidhi-raj sute
ayi sudatti jana-lal samanasa-mohan manmatha-raja sute
jaya jaya hey mahishasura mardini-ramyakpardini shailasute ||13||

(Salutations to the goddess) who is like a royal intoxicated elephant
from whose Cheeks the Thick Mada (Intoxicant) oozes out and falls incessantly
(in the form of Arts, Beauty and Power), who is the daughter of the king and from whom, 
comes the treasures of arts, beauty and power which are ornaments of the three worlds.

(Salutations to the goddess) who is like the daughter of manmatha (god of desires) 
who gives rise to the desires and infatuation in the mind for people,
victory to you, victory to you, the destroyer of mahishasura,
the one with beautiful-braided hair, the daughter of the mountain.

कमलदलामल कोमलकान्ति कलाकलितामल भाललते
सकलविलास कलानिलयक्रम केलिचलत्कल हंसकुले ।
अलिकुलसङ्कुल कुवलयमण्डल मौलिमिलद्बकुलालिकुले
जय जय हे महिषासुरमर्दिनि रम्यकपर्दिनि शैलसुते ॥ १४ ॥

kamala dalamala-komala kanti-kala kalita mala-bhaalalate
sakala vilasa-kala nilaya-krama keli chalat kala-hansa kule
alikula sangkula-kuvalaya mandala-mouli milad bakula li-kule
jaya jaya hey mahishasura mardini-ramyakpardini shailasute ||14||

(Salutations to the goddess) who is with the radiance like that of the lotus petals, 
whose forehead is like that of a clear moon, who is skilled in all the arts, 
and surrounded with attendants, whose steps are followed by dancing swans.

(Salutations to the goddess) who is with lotuses and Pogada flowers,
which are attracting the bees,  V
ictory to you, Victory to you, the destroyer of mahishasura,
the one with beautiful-braided hair, the daughter of the mountain.

||14||

करमुरलीरव वीजितकूजित लज्जितकोकिल मञ्जुमते
मिलितपुलिन्द मनोहरगुञ्जित रञ्जितशैल निकुञ्जगते ।
निजगणभूत महाशबरीगण सद्गुणसम्भृत केलितले
जय जय हे महिषासुरमर्दिनि रम्यकपर्दिनि शैलसुते ॥ १५ ॥

kara murali-rava vijit kuujita lajjita kokila-manju mate
milit pulinda-manohara gunjita-ranjita shaila-nikunja gate
nijgana bhuta-maha shabarii gana-sad guna sambhrita-keli-tale
jaya jaya hey mahishasura mardini-ramyakpardini shailasute ||15||

(Salutations to the goddess) whose voice is like the sounds createdby the flute, 
who makes the cuckoo birds ashamed of their voices,
who likes to live in the place on the Vindhya mountains, 
which are filled and looking beautiful with full of the swarm of bees.

(Salutations to the goddess) who has good heart, who joined her movements
with the pramadha, bhutha, mahashabri ganas and others
Victory to you, Victory to you, the destroyer of mahishasura,
the one with beautiful-braided hair, the daughter of the mountain.

कटितटपीत दुकूलविचित्र मयुखतिरस्कृत चन्द्ररुचे
प्रणतसुरासुर मौलिमणिस्फुर दंशुलसन्नख चन्द्ररुचे
जितकनकाचल मौलिमदोर्जित निर्भरकुञ्जर कुम्भकुचे
जय जय हे महिषासुरमर्दिनि रम्यकपर्दिनि शैलसुते ॥ १६ ॥

katti tatta pita-dukula vichitra mayukha tiraskrita-chandra ruche
pranat surAsura mouli manni sphura-damshula sannakha-chandra ruche
jitkana kachala-mouli madourjita-nirbhara kunjara-kumbha kuche
jaya jaya hey mahishasura mardini-ramyakpardini shailasute ||16||

(Salutations to the goddess) whose waist is soaked with colourful silk clothes,
the lustre of which is like shine of the moon,
the shine coming from the crowns of the bowed devas and asuras,
are reflecting like the moon on the nails of your feet.

(Salutations to the goddess) whose bosom is glowing like the peak of the
golden mountain (meru) and like the kumbhasthala of airavatha,
Victory to you, Victory to you, the destroyer of mahishasura,
the one with beautiful-braided hair, the daughter of the mountain.

||16||

विजितसहस्रकरैक सहस्रकरैक सहस्रकरैकनुते
कृतसुरतारक सङ्गरतारक सङ्गरतारक सूनुसुते ।
सुरथसमाधि समानसमाधि समाधिसमाधि सुजातरते ।
जय जय हे महिषासुरमर्दिनि रम्यकपर्दिनि शैलसुते ॥ १७ ॥

vijita sahasra-karaika sahasra karaika-sahasra-karika nute
krita sura taraka-sangara taraka sangara-taraka shunu sute
shuratha samadhi-samana samadhi-samadhi samadhi-sujata rate
jaya jaya hey mahishasura mardini-ramyakpardini shailasute ||17||

(Salutations to the goddess) who conquer thousands of enemies who fight against her 
with thousands of hands (by manifesting her own thousand hands)
who then make thousands of hands (of devotees) praise he.
who created the rescuer of the devas (Lord Kartikeya)
to fight with demon tarkasura and then prepared him for the war.

(Salutations to the goddess) whose glory had removed the worldly attachments of the King Suradha 
and Merchant Samadhi and had their mind on you,
victory to you, victory to you, the destroyer of mahishasura,
the one with beautiful-braided hair, the daughter of the mountain.

||17||

पदकमलं करुणानिलये वरिवस्यति योऽनुदिनं सुशिवे
अयि कमले कमलानिलये कमलानिलयः स कथं न भवेत् ।
तव पदमेव परम्पदमित्यनुशीलयतो मम किं न शिवे
जय जय हे महिषासुरमर्दिनि रम्यकपर्दिनि शैलसुते ॥ १८ ॥

padakamala karuna-nilaye vairivasyati-yo nudinamsu shive
ayi kamale-kamala nilaye-kamala nilayaha-sa-katham na bhavet
tava padameva-param pada mitya nushi layato-mama kim na shive
jaya jaya hey mahishasura mardini-ramyakpardini shailasute ||18||

(Salutations to the goddess) who is merciful to those who worship on the lotus feet of the goddess daily
and they will be blessed, O the consort of Shiva
who lives in the lotus, who recites as well as love to reside in the lotuses, (Mahalakshmi),
who loves to live in the lotus heart of her devotees
(indicating that the presence of Goddess bestows wisdom and wealth).

(Salutations to the goddess)  whose feet is the supreme feet ,
Therefore how can I not practise devotion towards them, O the consort of  shiva?
 deeply involved with that (related to your words), what I need more, O the consort of Shiva
victory to you, victory to you, the destroyer of mahishasura,
the one with beautiful-braided hair, the daughter of the mountain. 

||18||

कनकलसत्कलसिन्धुजलैरनुषिञ्चति तेगुणरङ्गभुवम्
भजति स किं न शचीकुचकुम्भतटीपरिरम्भसुखानुभवम् ।
तव चरणं शरणं करवाणि नतामरवाणि निवासि शिवम्
जय जय हे महिषासुरमर्दिनि रम्यकपर्दिनि शैलसुते ॥ १९ ॥

kanaka lasaat kala-sindhu jalairAnussin chati te guna-ranga bhuvam
bhajati sa kim na-sachi kucha kumbha tattii-parirambha sukha nubhvam
tava charanam-sharanam kara-vaani nata amara-vani nivaasi shivam
jaya jaya hey mahishasura mardini-ramyakpardini shailasute ||19||

Knowing that when a devotee washes the place where your attributes are exhibited (place of worship)
with water from river which is shining like gold and flowing Softly,
will he not feel the joy of your all-embracing grace contained in your Pitcher-like bosom?
(Therefore) I take refuge in you feet, O Vani (Devi Mahasaraswati),
O Eternal Vani (Devi Mahasaraswati), in whom resides all auspiciousness,
Victory to you, Victory to you, the destroyer of mahishasura,
the one with beautiful-braided hair, the daughter of the mountain.

||19||

तव विमलेन्दुकुलं वदनेन्दुमलं सकलं ननु कूलयते
किमु पुरुहूतपुरीन्दु मुखी सुमुखीभिरसौ विमुखीक्रियते ।
मम तु मतं शिवनामधने भवती कृपया किमुत क्रियते
जय जय हे महिषासुरमर्दिनि रम्यकपर्दिनि शैलसुते ॥ २० ॥

tava vimalendu kulam-vadanendu malam sakalam-nanu kula yate
kimu puruhutta puri indu-mukhi sumukhiibhirAsou-vimukhi kriyate
mama tu matam-shiva naama dhane bhavatii-krpayaa kimuta kriyate
jaya jaya hey mahishasura mardini-ramyakpardini shailasute ||20||

(Salutations to the goddess) whose moon-like face is the abode of spotless 
and stainless purity which certainly subdues all impurities,
Otherwise, why have my mind turned away from the
moon-faced beautiful ladies like those present in swarga?
according to my opinion; without your blessing,
